If you plan to do streaming of gaming I would suggest signing up for (This will also guarantee you get into the xsplit beta):
http://www.own3d.tv/

First Things First

-Selecting one of the 12 buttons on the lower right
-Now click the "Add" button in the lower left
Here you can add either a Camera (If you want to broadcast yourself) or a Screen Region (For desktop/games)
-Once you have selected one of the two it will create an object on the viewport, just drag the upper left and lower right corners so that it spans the whole screen (or else what you stream will be ~1/10th the size of what you're actually doing)

Menu Options To Change

-View -> Scale Viewport
Set this to 10% (So the broadcaster isn't so obnoxiously big on your screen :D)
-View -> Resolution
Set this to your computers current resolution (If you don't see it on the list, give 1280x720 a try)
-View -> Framerate
15 FPS should be good for this (If your computer/connection can handle it you can try to stream at higher FPS, but you can find a good number on your own)

Add Your Streaming Account

-Tools -> Settings
*Optional* Under the "General" tab you can select the "Enable Skype interaction" checkbox if use skype
-Click the "Channels" tab
-Click the "Add..." button and choose the service you have an account for
-Fill in your account info
-Choose the following Settings

#Video Settings

Preset: streaming
Quality: 6 (Can be set higher if your computer/connection can handle it)
Max Bitrate: 1600 (Should be adjusted up or down depending on what your internet connection can handle)
Resolution: Default Mixer Resolution
Codex: *Leave this alone*
Buffer Size: *Leave this alone*

#Audio Settings

Format: 44.100 khz 16bit Stereo
Bitrate: 64000
Codec: MP3

*Optional* Checkbox at bottom

Automatically record broadcast (Check this if you want a recording of your stream)
*Do note* this does not save a copy on the service you stream to, it saves a copy locally. To access this copy go to Tools -> My Xsplit Files...
You should see a folder for each service you stream to click on the one you want to access. Right click on any of the files you want and choose "Save As" and save it to your computer! **Also note** You will want to delete any files you don't want or it will become cluttered!

Go Live!

Now all you have to do to make the stream go live is Broadcast -> *The service you want to go live*
And to stop broadcasting go to Broadcast -> *Select the service again*

*IMPORTANT NOTES*

Thanks to kdizz for reminding me, you need to run the game in windowed mode or various side effects will happen when you stream! (Screen flickering, random error messages, etc.)

After you have set the game to windowed mode you can download this program: http://grismar.net/shiftwindow/ to make it appear as fullscreen!
